What is a Zygomatic implant?

A zygomatic implant is a special type of dental implant, which is placed in the top jaw and anchored into the cheek bone.  This type of implant is used when the amount of bone present is insufficient to support a conventional implant.

In what types of circumstances can Zygomatic implants be used?

Zygomatic implants are usually used when the whole arch is to be supported by implants, but where bone loss is such that standard implants are unsuitable.  They can give a very stable base, allowing a whole row of teeth to be fixed into place permanently.  In some cases this can be done immediately, allowing you to have teeth straight away, without the need for bone grafting, or a lengthy wait between graft healing and implant placement.  Dr Armstrong will liaise with your referring dentist if this is an option, in order to help streamline the process.
